My Dad was in a horrible farm accident today, a 20,000 pound feed truck rolled over his chest. It crushed his cell phone that was in his shirt pocket into oblivion. He got up, drove his car 1/4 mile and crawled into the office where my Mom and sister were. They drove him to the hospital where they x-rayed and ran scans. Nothing broken, nothing displaced, just battered and bruised. It was a true miracle, when I heard what happened I thought he wouldn't make it but like I told my kids, God protected him, and all of our prayers help to heal him.

We went for a visit to meet little Levi and everyone fell in love. He is so cute and cuddly, I know we live a lot closer than Iowa, but I still with we could see the Fullers more ofter and love on their kiddos. The kids played really well together and we all had a great time.

For FHE the other night we carved pumpkins. Lily's is the bat, Sivai's is Jack skeleton, and Austin's is the other one. Lily would have nothing to do with "gutting" the pumpkin which surprised me because she is usually not concerned with anything being gross or yuck.

When Austin first walked in he only saw the couple of bones in his eyesight and said, "Are there any more?" then he looked up.

We headed up to Dinosaur National Monument today to take a look at the fossils, we took a couple friends along for fun. I don't think any picture you could take would capture the enormity of the quarry, it's a must see!

Football

Sivai is playing flag football this fall. He wanted to play tackle and I said no, we'll see about next year. He is doing really well and learning a lot about the game and he has a blast playing. He loves to be quarterback, it's a control thing, but he's good at it. He even watches some football with Patrick now, which I'm happy about because then I don't have too :).

Catch Up

Dinosaur National Monument. Yesterday afternoon we took a little trek to the monument. There's a short hike to some fossils that a Park ranger points out and explains.

Maybe Austin learned a lesson about wildlife when he caught this lizard and it promptly bit him twice, drawing blood.
I always find Amelia doing something she's not supposed to, she loves being a big girl.
First day of school, Sivai 3rd grade, Austin 1st. It sure is quiet around here when they are gone. I couldn't help but post this picture with their cheesy poses, it really shows their personalities.
A couple of days after Lagoon Patrick had a cousins reunion in West Jordan. We camped out on his Aunts lawn and the kids played and played with their extended family. They even had a chance to take a canoe trip down the canal. Thanks Uncle Bob!

Lagoon!! We took a trip to Lagoon right before school started. Uncle Irvin, Aunt Amber, and Aunt Jennifer tagged along for the fun. Austin and Lily rode every ride they could and loved it. Sivai liked the more mellow rides and still had a great time.

Not just a memory

I would catch her fussing over Sivai while we were there this year and she gave me a big hug and cried when we left. I wish I could speak Samoan and get to know her more.

Sean and Sivai the first night we arrived. Sean is Tulelei's son and she had him after Sivai left.

It's been over two months since we've been back and just the other day I had a break down driving down the road in the middle of day. Austin was talking about snorkeling in the ocean and I couldn't hold the tears back. We've been telling people that we want to move to Samoa once Patrick has graduated and has is LCSW, I don't know if they believe us but we are. I catch myself daydreaming about it, planning out my days and how my house and garden will be set up. I have a picture in my head that I go back to and fill in the details. It's a small house with louvered windows and a large tree growing over it, probably a mango tree or a breadfruit tree. It faces south and is on the hillside, and there are chickens in the front yard.

The house above is where Sivai lived for a year with his foster family. It's right on the ocean and they don't stay there any more because they are afraid of the ocean ofter the tsunami over a year ago. It was a big deal for them to come back and have us be there this year. The tsunami swept away their umu (outdoor kitchen) and their toilet. They have been replaced with better accommodations, even though they have hardly been used.

This is the house Patrick and I first met Sivai in and where we stayed while Patrick was in Samoa.

Amelia's 1st b-day was celebrated in Cedar City with a big family BBQ. She loved her cake and her presents.

Austin's b-day was the same night of the pinewood derby so we came home and had a late party.

I feel like chaos and confusion has taken over my life again. Take a deep breath, imagine calming sound of the ocean and palm trees blowing in the wind.

I need to de-clutter and de-stress my life, but the thought of that even seems overwhelming. I know having four kids means that there is always going to be a lot on my plate, but I feel like all these things are swallowing me up right now.

I know what I need to do, but slowing down and taking the time to do it seems impossible.

It's Austin's 6th birthday today, and the pinewood derby in scouts for Sivai, plus we're leaving for Cedar City tomorrow.

The picture of Sivai is my favorite picture from the trip. It's a moment of pure joy and beauty. He was so excited to get on the ferry to the Savaii and see his birth family and foster family. I wish we could be caught up in this moment forever. I had a lot of spontaneous outbursts of emotion on this trip and this was one of them, I could feel through him a sense of coming home, a return to something he didn't know he missed.

The kids and I took a trip to KS to visit my parents and my grandparents. We swam, went hunting, watched Keely at 4-H and the boys did a lot of riding the 4-wheeler at the feedlot.
We shot a total of 8 eight rabbits on our hunt, Austin was a natural and Lily got had a blast.

This is the backyard of Taafaga and Vale Tagaloa. They live on the church compound of Pesega where the church school and the temple are located. When we adopted Sivai and I was required to stay for four weeks longer than scheduled this is where I spent most of my time. At that time they were not allowed to have large gardens in their backyards so it was just grass, seeing it all in garden is an improvement that really helps the families provide for themselves.

It was home, I felt safe and loved and taken care of there. They shared so freely what little they had. The Tagaloa's have 9 children, one adopted. But there is usually more than that living there, they are always taking in cousins and providing for them while they attend the church school.

I would spend my days sitting in the back yard eating dozens of mango's and bananas, talking with Vale and her kids and trying to stay cool. The little shack in the picture is their outdoor kitchen. They have a regular kitchen in their house but it's too expensive for them to be running the stove, and they prefer to cook outside. Most Samoans cook outside.

The Dotson's and the Tagaloa's are family. Vale helped Patricks' mom on their mission, she healed her through love so that Maralyn was able to stay and finish her mission. I don't think anyone can understand the complete difference of being in Samoa unless you have been there. It's a hard place to be when you feel like you're only surviving. I'm glad that I was able to embrace Samoa and look past the heat and the smells and some of the primitive ways. It was all part of who my son is and what Samoa is, and in some ways a way of life that is so much simpler and uncomplicated, I yearn for this way of life.

I've decided to post one picture at a time from our trip to Samoa. This is Sivai on the first flight from L.A. to Fiji right after we boarded the plane. The only flights into and out of Samoa require connecting through other countries. This leg of the journey was a 10.5 hour ride, overnight. Our connection both ways was a 15 hour layover in Nadi Fiji. The boys did really well. Austin slept most of the way but as you can see Sivai was filled with excitement and had a hard time sleeping.

I hesitate to call our trip a vacation, or a trip, or a visit. I can't think of what to call it but those words don't fit. It was life changing. I'm still not adjusted, and I don't know when or if that will happen. I think about the people and the country nearly every hour. I hope that posting a picture at a time and writing down some memories will help me process the whole experience.

Lily and I made cinnamon rolls for Father's Day. I asked her to smile for the camera and this is what I got. Typical.

Austin and Sivai just finished up t-ball and coach pitch baseball. They missed most of their games due to weather cancellations and our two week trip to Samoa. They did enjoy the couple of games they got to play and I could see some improvement from the beginning of the season.

Sivai had a run-in with the front step. Thankfully it only needed glued instead of stitches.

Amelia is learning to walk, everyday she gets a little more confident and daring. As of today she can take 4 steps before she tips over. She has been my most cautious walker and knows how to "fall" without hurting herself.

We bought a small digital camera for Sivai and Austin to use while we were in Samoa. They had a fun time taking pictures and video with it. I have a bunch of pictures but I think their pictures really tell a story.
Above: Sivai's birth Grandmother, in the green, birth sister, in the red. She makes Siapo, or tapa. It was such an emotionally rewarding and draining experience for all of us.

Leufito, this was Sivai's foster Dad, he is married to Tulelei. He can hardly speak English but Sivai loved being with him while we were there.

I wish Sivai would have gotten a little better picture, but this is Tulelei, some of her kids and some of her nieces and nephews.

"Umu," outdoor oven. Leufitu and family made a wonderful feast, the black things on the pig are hot lava rocks, the white is taro and banana. After all the rocks are added they cover with banana leaves and cook for several hours. Sivai and Austin were fascinated with the process, we watched the whole butchering.

Austin and a his friends found a litter of cotton tails out in a field. They didn't even have their eyes open and he was insistent on bringing one home and keeping it. He loves loves loves any living thing and tries to collect them, eventually all the bunnies ended up back in their home, but you can probably guess their fate after being handled by little kids all day.

My sister Anna lived with us for 3 1/2 months. She left the middle of April and this is one of only two pictures I have with her here. I don't know why I don't take pictures, I need to be better. It was so nice to have her here. She not only helped out a ton around the house and with the kids but became a good friend to me. She is #6 in our family and I am #2. When I left home at 18 she was only 9 so we didn't do a lot of growing up together. It was awesome to get to know her and have those months together. All of the kids still talk about her and ask when she's coming back, but I'm sure she's happy to be back to her college life at BYU-Idaho where she's studying to become an RN. We love you and miss you Anna.

Great to be Eight, and Five

Austin is loving Kindergarten and just the other day he learned how to ride a bike with no training wheels. He's out riding now at 7:30am, and doesn't stop until its time for school. He loves spelling and now talks that way. He came up to me this evening and said, "I space L I K E space Y O U."

We are so excited to go to Samoa. We plan of baptizing Sivai there and visiting friends and relatives. He celebrated his birthday with a party the Saturday before and then on his birthday we requested to eat out at Chinese buffet. He got a Swiss army knife and carries if everywhere, prepared for anything that comes his way.

If you're wondering who that skinny guy is in the picture with Austin, it's Patrick. He's lost 30 lbs.!!! Doesn't he look smokin' hot?

Happy Girl!
She's crawling all of the place and already starting to pull herself up to her knees.

Sivai has been gold mining in the backyard with Lily and Austin, and all the neighbor kids. So far they haven't struck it rich, but I'm crossing my fingers. He headed out there this evening dressed to impress. Six shooters, Indiana Jones hat, and backpack full of supplies; I had to get a picture. Spring is wonderful.

Patrick got accepted into the master's program! He will be getting his Master's in Social Work through Utah State University (the extension here in Vernal). He has spent so much time working on his application and getting ready to apply and all his hard work paid off. It's going to be a huge commitment but it will all be worth it. With his degree he will be able to get his LCSW and be a counselor.

I don't know whether to be excited or scared for this new chapter, but I'm incredibly proud of Patrick for all he does for our family.

Yellow Yaks and Green Gators

Amelia and I. I'm usually the one taking pictures and not ever in them. The outfit Amelia is in was worn by Lily and I can't believe how different they look in it.

Sivai's team name is the "yellow yaks." He is enjoying soccer so much and is already bragging about how good he is. He scored 2 goals in his first game, one for his team, one for the other team (it bounced off his leg when an opposing team member kicked it). It's amazing how quickly he's picked up playing without any previous experience.

Austin's team is the "green gators." He had a great first game today, he scored a goal too. He also played goalie, it was pretty easy without a single shot taken towards the goal during his quarter.

We've been trying to beat the winter indoor blues by getting and staying busy. A couple of weeks ago we went bowling (no pictures) and they had a blast. Today we went swimming at the rec. center and the kids are already begging to go back.

Six months! She got a tooth a couple of days ago and is sooo close to crawling. At her last appointment she was in the 25th percentile for weight and the 90th for height.

Winter Break

Amelia, Renee, Daniel. Two weekends before Christmas my sister Heidi graduated from BYU-I. This is when Renee, Nick and I met up at Lisa's house to carpool up there. Unfortunately my hands were full at the graduation and I let Renee do all the picture taking. Congrats Heidi!!

The day before we left for Christmas in Cedar City and the wedding at Logan it snowed over 12 inches. The kids love it.

Grandpa Dotson has become quite accomplished with his woodworking. We each got a hand turned ornament for Christmas. This one features a sea shell.

Another Thanksgiving, another trip to visit the Yeager's in Kansas. Patrick, Sivai, and Trapper went a couple of days early to pheasant hunt. Sivai had a blast spending every second he could at the feedyard, including a couple of crashes on the four wheeler. I can't believe my seven year-old is driving! It was nice to visit my Grandparent's and introduce Amelia to them. They have been out of town the last couple of times we've visited so it had been a while. Irvin brought home his new fiance, Amber. Sorry this is the only decent picture I got of her during the annual kickball game. We had a blast and can't wait until Heidi's graduation and Irvin's wedding both later this month.

Happy Birthday and Halloween

We celebrated Lily's birthday last week, her third, she had a great time opening presents and having cake and ice cream. She especially loves all of her new clothes, and changes them about 10 times a day.

Sivai decided to be a knight, Austin a vampire, and Lily a princess. We had to wake her up and she was not in a very good mood. I didn't even get her hair combed. We had a good time and everyone got plenty of candy.

This is quilt I custom made for someone, I think it turned out beautiful so I had to post a picture. It's made from cotton flannel and minky, it was soooo soft.

Lily sharing her doll and blankets with Amelia, I think her expression says it all. She's growing and changing so fast. It so fun to make her smile and sometimes she gives out a little laugh. The most important thing is that she is sleeping through the night! I am finally feeling like a normal person again.

We've had such a fun and exciting summer, it's sad to see it go. We took a little trip up the mountain a couple of weeks ago to watch the Kokene (spelling?) salmon spawning and we ended up stopping to fish in a little pond. Pictures above. The kids love being outside and I don't know how this winter is going to be once it gets so cold they can't be out.

Sometimes I take pictures, sometimes I don't. I had my camera with me last weekend when visiting a friend and my sister in Salt Lake. The only picture I took was of a tiger at the zoo, I deleted it. We had a great time at the zoo and being with Lisa and her family, I'm so glad they are closer!

"The Pizza Cart" Patrick wants to build one of his own. It's run by some friends from our old ward in Cedar City. If you're ever going through Cedar on a Friday or Saturday stop by for some awesome wood grilled pizza. They're parked in front of Ace hardware on main.

We headed down to Cedar City over Labor Day for Amelia's blessing. We decided to bless her in the Patricks parent's ward, the ward he grew up in, so that most of his family would be able to attend and see her for the first time. It was a great vacation for our family filled with great times with cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents.

1st Day

School started today, Kindergarten for Austin and 2nd grade homeschooling for Sivai. We decided Sivai needed a year at home and I'm doing the K12 program with him. It's great to have the resources and the support from some of my friends that home school. Two questions into his day Sivai announced, "Boy, this 2nd grade stuff is hard!" I thought he did great considering the K12 program is more advanced than our local schools.

Austin wanted to ride the bus his first school and off he went. He had a fun time but tomorrow he is insisting that I follow the bus and help him get to his classroom so he doesn't get lost again. I'm sure I just don't remember but it seems like he is much more calm about school than Sivai was. It's great to have him learning and growing.

Two days before Amelia was born we celebrated Austin's 5th birthday. We had a fun time with cake, homemade ice cream and a pinata. He loves all things boy and while fishing the other day he collected a couple of little water snakes, thankfully they didn't make it home. He's so fascinated by nature and it's fun to watch him explore and learn. He starts kindergarten this year, time flies.

Free Time

I've been using up the last of my free time the past couple days baking and crafting. The bread braid recipe I got from my good friend Lisa, wow! They were awesome and so easy to make. Austin has requested a pinata for his birthday. I'm cheap, plus I couldn't find one that he would like, he's really into bugs and crawly things. I decided to make one, and will never make one again. It wasn't hard but it took a lot of time and was very tedious.

Lily and I also made about a dozen hair bows for her and the baby (sorry, no picture). Some were the simple glue a flower on a clip, others I folded fabric to make. The boys come back Monday and my free time will be gone, but I think I've made the most of it and it has been the most relaxing last couple of weeks of a pregnancy I've ever had. No hurry up and get here baby!

Sivai and Austin have been gone for a week now. It seems like 5 times longer than that. I've enjoyed the peace and quiet and the less work it takes to only have one kid at home, but it sure leaves an empty spot in our home. They're having a blast in KS with Grandma and Grandpa Yeager, and probably won't want to come home when it's time.
With all the free time on my hands I've been able to take my time getting ready for this baby. I'm 9 months today (36 weeks) and I can't believe it's July! I got the baby clothes out, set up the bassinet and I'm working on her blessing dress. Lily has helped out every step of the way with a million questions and opinions about how things are going to be when the baby comes. I feel like I'm ready for HER, just not ready for dealing with the rest of life.
I love the excitement a new baby brings and I can't wait to share it with my kids.

Lisa and Jordan and kids came to visit for a couple of days and our kids had a great time playing together. We can't wait until they are able to move back to UT.
Over Father's Day we had a great Dotson reunion with a lot of Patrick's brothers and sisters and their families. It was such a busy weekend this is the only picture I took. I know, pathetic. We had a great time hiking, camping, cooking, fishing and everyone but Lily and I had a great time rafting. One of these days I'll get to float the green river.

Mesa Verde

Last weekend to beat the Memorial Day crowds some of the Yeager bunch met up at Mesa Verde in Southern Colorado. It was such a great little vacation that wasn't too far away. The weather was perfect, and I'm pretty sure everyone had a great time (even my little brother Wyle who tried to pretend it was all too boring for him.) It was a bummer Heidi and Irvin were busy with school and work and Lisa was just too far away in Iowa to miss out on all the fun.

Sivai was always leading the crowd and climbing everything he could. He only fell out of one tree, but it didn't seem to bother him for too long.

As usual Austin was most interested in the small things, especially caterpillars and bugs. He may have overturned every rock he came across. This happens to be a blossom from a flower.

Lily was carried around a lot of the time, it was a good there were a lot of shoulders to do the work.

Patrick was very excited to go turkey hunting this spring and even took Sivai along once. He was lucky enough to get one before the season ended. We haven't eaten it yet and I'm wondering how the kids will react when we do.

Austin has had a great time this year in his tumbling class, it's sad to know it's over. He gained so much confidence and was very proud that he could finally teach his brother how to do something. I can't believe he starts kindergarten this fall.

I've never had a 3D ultrasound and when my Drs. office offered it for free I thought it would be a fun new thing. Unfortunately baby did not want to cooperate and stayed firmly placed between my hip bone and the placenta. We got a great 3d view of my placenta, with some of her face. It was still fun to see her moving, kicking and sucking. This is the best picture we got, on the right hand side is a partial view of her eye and nose, that may or may not be her hand over her mouth. Oh, and we double checked, still a girl :).

Sivai had his dance program today and did a great job, they have been practicing for weeks now and he has been very excited. They performed several different dances and at the end families could join in and do the chicken dance. I let Patrick have all the fun.

Austin found a dollar, under the bed or something. I went to Wal-mart today to get a few things and while I was putting Lily in the cart he ran over to the pop machine before I realized he was even gone. Once I tracked him down I discovered he had inserted the dollar in a pop machine, a miracle considering how wrinkled it was, and had pushed a random button. Out came a Mountain Dew Code Red, the version with EXTRA caffeine. He was quite proud of himself, but I wouldn't let him drink it. I bought him a strawberry milk instead. But now what do I do with the Mountain Dew?

Happy Birthday Sivai, and A New Shed

After our trip to Rexburg Patrick's parents came up to visit and help us (Patrick) build a shed. We are quickly running out of space in our house and with #4 coming in a couple of months (still no name) it's going to be great to have a place to store things. Before they arrived Patrick had poured the cement slab with help from friends and my Dad, so Monday morning they were up early and in two days this is what they accomplished, plus the window and door are in. It was just too dark to take a picture when they stopped working that night about 10pm.

Patrick has been spending his spare time getting it ready to paint, insulate and and finish. It's such a blessing to have the help from both sides of the family and our friends. Since Sunday, Sivai's 7th b-day was spent traveling, we celebrated Monday night with Grandma and Grandpa Dotson. He had a great time and learned to ride his bike within about 5 minutes, now we can't keep him off of it.

I've started some things in the garden, onions, potatoes, peas, and some strawberry plants. I'm trying out a variety of vegetables this summer in small quantities to see that grows well and what I like growing. It's exciting to see them start sprouting, and I hope I'm not creating too much work for myself this summer.

Rexburg

We had a fun trip up to Rexburg last weekend. It my by younger brother Irvin's college graduation. My kids love spending time with their Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles.

My Mom always gets her arm twisted into frying a huge batch of fried chicken in a tiny college apartment kitchen, quite a feat.

On the way home we stopped in SLC while waiting to get my sister Renee to the airport. It was a beautiful day and we killed some time by taking a stroll around temple square. The flowers were amazing!

In between sessions of conference Saturday was the perfect time to dye Easter eggs. It's great to have the kids be older and really enjoy it and understand how to do it. We didn't end up with any cracked eggs or "brown" eggs from dipping in every color.

Stubborn

This is how I found Lily one day after thinking she was asleep for a nap...well, I guess she was asleep just half naked and dangling from her changing table snoring.

The past couple of weeks have a been a rough patch for Lily and her sleeping habits. Since she was potty trained she seemed to have lost her zeal for taking naps and sleeping through the night. We've been lucky enough to have had very good sleepers in our house, even as babies, so I'm not used to this struggle. It started with her waking up in the early morning hours needing to use the bathroom but instead climbing in bed with her brothers and waking them up. I put a child lock on the outside of their door and it stopped that, she came to our room instead. It then progressed into not wanting to take naps so I figured she didn't need them and stopped trying to lay her down, but she eventually falls asleep on the couch late in the afternoon which would make for late nights. It turned into her downright refusing to go to bed.
One night she stripped naked and peed on the floor and then proceeded to play until we found her. This happened for a couple of nights, then she had a horrible night where she did her little peeing on the floor routine four times!!! It took her nearly 3 hours to get to bed that night. Oh, and this whole time she is still waking up in the wee morning hours and crawling into bed with us, which usually means kicking me out. I had had it at this point and decided I needed to employ a version of the bedtime routine I have seen on one of those "Nanny" shows. I put her to bed making sure all of her needs were met and stayed by her bedroom door. Every time, nearly 40 in total, she climbed out of bed I would promptly put her back in without talking or making eye contact.
I couldn't believe how stubborn she was about it. Really, 40 times crawling in and out of bedscreaming and crying at the top of her lungs!! It took about 1 1/2 hours to get her to sleep, but she never undressed. The past couple of nights she hasn't got out of bed and only cries about 10 minutes while I wait by her door for her to settle down. Now I have to figure out how to stop her from kicking me out of bed at 5 in the morning! I know this is a bit of a rant, but I AM TIRED! Being pregnant and not getting enough sleep is the worst, I'm hopeing she grows out of this fast.

Tournament

Sivai had his last wrestling tournament Tuesday night and he did great. He got pinned on his first match, but rebounded and pinned his opponent the second match. He can't wait until next year.

Pink

The ties didn't go over too well. The pattern I used was a little small, but mainly they were pink, and pink is for girls. Four and seven year old boys don't wear it. Austin was on the verge of a melt down in the picture and we had to force him to wear it. Oh well....they were kinda cute.

Easter Dress

I just finished making Lily's Easter dress. I was able to use some left over organza from my little sisters baptism dress for the top overlay and the sleeves. Now on to the boys' matching ties. I've never made ties before so I hope they turn out alright. The dress and the ties altogether will only cost me $10!

Wrestling

Lily didn't want to get left behind when I was packing for one our trips a couple of weeks ago.

Sivai has had a fun time wrestling this year and Patrick and I have had just as much fun watching him. He's learned a lot, but still has a ways to go to know what he's doing. His last meet he wrestled a girl and since they match kids up according to weight she must have been 3 years older than him and very experienced. I was proud to see that he didn't have any reservations and thought it was funny that he got beat by a girl :). There's only a week and a half left of wrestling and then on to baseball. Yeah for spring!

I do not usually post on my wifes blog... however I felt that I needed to share my feeling with those who may have known my uncle pete. (Duch oven professional) I found out he past away last Friday from a heart attack. I however was able to be in Cedar a week before he died. He was had some discomfort in his chest so he asked me, my brother, and my dad to give him a blessing. He went on his way like he was ok, however he later had a heart attack. By that night he was in St. Geroge hospital. Wednesday he had a quadruple bypass, Friday morning he was talking and laughing with his kids, by that night he passed. It has been rough however I know that he was given an extra week on this earth. The funeral was beautiful. I'll miss you uncle pete. patrick

Peter Kent Dotson, 72, beloved son of George Horold and Ether Fontella Dotson, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 in St. George, Utah due to complications following a heart attack.
Peter was born 9 December, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Fawn, two sons, Michael and George, and grandson, Christopher. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Dotson, brothers, George (Onda Vee) and Richard (Maralyn), sisters Joan Solas (Hank) and Elaine Martinez and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He married Rebecca Benner in July, of 1956 and welcomed Pete, Jr., (Laura) and Michael into their home. Pete joined the United States Army in 1957. They were later divorced.
Pete married Patricia Edmonds in March, 1965 and raised Nick, David (Bonnie), and Elizabeth (Karsten) Toomer, Kimberly (Michael) Schrauth, George, Jared (Kathleen), James (Adrian), Jason (Brooke). They were later divorced. They have 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Pete made a living doing many things, of which trucking became an important support. In 1990 he moved to Cedar City to be closer to family and to Minersville, where he spent many of his formative years. He was a master of many trades and for the past 20 years has been employed at the El Rey motel in Cedar City, Utah.
Pete and Vickie met while working together at the El Rey and have been a great support to each other, through many trials and much joy. Pete adored all of his children and grandchildren and did many things to expose them to cultural and uplifting events and activities. They will forever appreciate all that he has done for them and taught them.
Vickie's children are: Eric LeFevre, Andy (Tamara - deceased) LeFevre, Travis (Collette) LeFevre, Ryan (Robyn) LeFevre, Kacie Jesus (Ray), Wendi Alcaraz (David), and Amy Rice (Allen). They have 18 grandchildren.
Pete's testimony and study of the gospel of Jesus Christ is respected and well-known in the Cedar City Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pete loved to study gospel principles and took many classes from Garry Graf at the Institute of Religion. He was an avid reader and was knowledgeable about many subjects.
He was considered one of the best Dutch oven cooks in southern Utah and many will miss his experienced cooking, fun personality, and work ethic. He loved to serve and always thought of others before he thought of himself. He was loved dearly and will be missed tremendously.
Dr. Kory Woodbury's extraordinary efforts gave Pete extra time with his adoring family and we thank him and the staff at Dixie Regional for their care and support.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City 4th Ward located at 500 West 400 North in Cedar City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Cedar City 4th Ward, and again at the Church on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 9:00 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Minersville Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary

The Living Planet Aquarium

The kids and I took a short trip out to Salt Lake this weekend to visit my sister Renee and her husband Nicholas who was in town for business. We stayed at Jennifer's house, she is always such a gracious host and Auntie.

Saturday we headed to the The Living Planet Aquarium and spent nearly 3 hours there. All of the kids loved the animals, Sivai and Austin were all about touching and feeling, which Lily wanted nothing to do with. The little deli had reasonable food rates which made it very convenient to eat there, and the highlight for all of us was Nick, Sivai and Austin being able to feed the sting rays. It was such a fun time to spend with Renee and Nick! My kids are still begging to go back and feed the animals again.

Wrestling

Sivai started wrestling this week and is having a blast. He was a little nervous leading up to it but once we were there he jumped right in and followed instructions very well. I was surprised how quickly he caught on. He has two practices a week and starting in March he will have meets once a week, with a tournament at the end of March.

We went to Cedar City over the weekend for Patricks' work and I spent some time with

my friend at the St. George Parade of Homes. We had a fun weekend enjoying the warm weather (to us) with family and friends, but we're glad to be home after the long trip home in the snow.

I haven't posted for a while, life is busy and I forgot my camera in Cedar City over New Years. However there is news worthy of a post without pictures. We will be having baby #4 the end of July! We're excited, but I think the kids are more excited. They ask me everyday about it and like most little girls Lily is convinced she has one in her tummy too. Pregnancy #3 has been a little more uncomfortable that the first two, but still bearable. I hope to get my camera back in February, or get a new one.
We had wonderful adventures over the holidays, spending Thanksgiving in KS and heading to Cedar City the day after Christmas. We all enjoy visiting both sides of the family and always have a great time.

We had a fun day today packed with a lot of excitement. I dressed Austin and Lily up in their Halloween costumes and headed to the library for their little trick-or-treat parade. They both had a blast, and it was good to be inside away from the freezing cold. I treated them to lunch at MacDonald's where they played for over and hour and then I took Austin to his tumbling class, it was also dress up day. Lily wants to join in every week and I always end up in the car with her. After tumbling we headed home for a much needed nap and then went to the school for Sivai's parent teacher conference. Let's just say there's going to be a lot more reading going on at our house.... I guess the recommended 20 min. a day isn't cutting it.
We came home and had dinner and then waited for presents and cake. Lily was really patient all day and I think her brothers were more excited than her. She had a blast ripping open her gifts and seemed to love them all, most of them ended up in bed with her. It was a long day, notice Miss Lily's frazzled hair, but it was fun.

Samoa

Many of you have probably heard of the tsunami that hit Samoa this past week. We were so worried about so many people there, but through the grace of God we have found out that none of our closest friends and family were injured.
This is a picture of the fale (house) that Sivai spent a year of his life in. It's where we met him for the first time. It's where we stayed for two weeks getting to know him and his beautiful foster family. It's where we had so much fun dancing and singing in Samoan.
We learned that it was swept into the ocean, and I can't imagine the devastation that must be left. I'll always remember the first morning there waking up to the sounds of the ocean splashing up against the rocks about 5 feet from us, and the feel of the cool ocean breeze. We could see the sunrise from our window and we lay there in aw watching it rise over the ocean.
I hope that we can visit our friends and family there soon and make some new memories, but I'm so greatful for the ones that I have to cherish.

Has anyone else noticed that Miley Cyrus has a new clothing line in the teeny-bopper section of Wal-mart? Austin has. He's had a healthy obsession with Miley/Hannah for about the last six months. I try not to feed it, he's not allowed to watch the t.v. show but he continues with his little crush. He's even asked if we could go to the beach and visit her.
While waiting in line the other day at Wal-mart Austin ran over to the Miley display, grabbed one of the shirts (the same one that she was wearing in the ad. picture) buried his face in it and took a big sniff. He came running back to me with the biggest smile on his face and announced that he had smelled Miley Cyrus' clothes! I think he truly believed that she had worn them, sometimes he just melts my heart.

1st Grade

Sivai started 1st grade this week after much anticipation. I think he was most excited about eating school lunch and playing at recess, like most 1st graders. But we did have a little excitement that morning.

The day before school started we went to our splash park for a little fun. After being there a while Austin came running saying that he got stung by a bee. Apparently he had caught it and was trying to pull off it's legs. I didn't feel much sympathy for him. He went on his way and then about 10 minutes before we left Sivai came running saying that his foot hurt. I can't remember if he said it was a bee or not, but it wasn't red, and there wasn't a stinger. I told him he probably stepped on a sticker and to keep playing. He didn't mention it again until the next morning, the first day of school. I looked at his foot and it was swollen and had a black and blue circle where he obviously had been stung. I debated out loud whether or not I should take him to the Dr. or not and he begged to go to his first day of school. After some antihistamine and a fathers' blessing I let him go. It cleared up after 48 hours and luckily I didn't have to take him in to the Dr's. (Notice the note pinned to his shirt alerting his teachers to the situation.)

He had an exhausting first week of school, but loved every minute of it. I thought he would like having a half day Friday, but when I asked he said he was mad because he only got one recess instead of three. He's really lucky this year because his kindergarten teacher moved up to 1st grade to team teach, and Sivai was lucky enough to be in her class again.

I thought Austin and Lily might have a hard time adjusting to him not being home but they seem to enjoy their freedom for the most part.

Wildflowers

We just returned from a 2 week vacations to Southern Utah and Alaska. We spent the 24th of July with Patrick's family and had a great time seeing everyone. Sunday Patrick, Sivai and I took off to Alaska for vacation with my family. Austin and Lily stayed behind and were watched by our nieces in Cedar City. We caught a lot of fish, had a great time and already miss everyone.

We had a little party for Austin at the park on his birthday. He was so excited to invite all of his friends. We had cupcakes, pizza, and a water balloon fight. Despite him being a little ornery he had a great day and hasn't stopped playing with all of his new toys. I can't believe he's 4!

These little guys are evil! I've heard of them but up until this year my garden hasn't been enticing enough for them to make a visit. After all but killing my pumpkin plant and starting to get to my zucchini plants I found a quick and easy solution to getting rid of these pests. First look under all the leaves on you plants and cut off any that have their eggs on them. They look like little brown poppy seeds in a clump. Then spray some water on the plant and wait for the bugs to start climbing up. Quickly spray every bug with a mixture of dish soap and water, make sure to soak them. After about a minute they are completely dead! It's such a great way to get rid of them because you're not using a pesticide and it doesn't contaminate your' produce. Sometimes it's the little battles in life that bring a smile to my face.

I do not usually post on this Blog, however I had a wonderful half day with Austin. He was so excited to come into work with me. He wanted to see and hug a cop. I do not work directly with the police/sheriff. A co-worker, Ausin, and I went over to the sheriff's office and were able to visit with this nice officer. When the officer came into the room Austins eyes were silver dollars. He gave Austin a bag of goodies, as well as a junior deputy badge. Austin was also able to play around in the officer's truck, playing with the reeeeeerreeeeer (siren) and the lights. Austin will probably not forget that, Neither will I. I especially will not forget when he asked for a hug, and the officer gave him one. touching... As we were leaving Austin asked if he could have his gun. I love that kid.

She's talking a lot more and even putting2 and 3 word sentences together. This week she learned the meaning of "no" and now "no, Mama, no" is her favorite thing to say.

We recently got a kitten, she's a little feisty but the kids love her. She's an outdoor cat and her main purpose is to keep small critters OUT of my house. I think her name is Pepper, but it could change.

T-Ball

Sivai had his first T-ball game today. I thought it was supposed to be last weekend, but I got my dates mixed up. It was a little bit of a crazy day because the night before we went camping and fishing with some friends. Luckily when you go camping you get an early start to the day so we didn't have too much of a problem getting packed up, home and showered and back into his game all by 9 a.m. He did a great job, connecting with the ball both times and running his heart out.

This week was also his last week of school. They had a little program Thursday but the lights were off in the gym and my camera didn't take very good shots. He did a great job with his part and sang every song at the top of his lungs. He's excited to be in 1st grade now, I'm just a little scared :)

It was fun to walk around the Heber Valley R.R. station and see all the old trains and the "scrapyard" where Diesel (from Thomas) lived.

We all had a great time on the train ride. It went really slow so you could get up and walk around. The kids spent most of the time with their heads out the side. The "conductor" walked up and down the train saying "hi" to all the kids and passing out a certificate, Sivai wondered who was driving if the conductor was walking around.

Austin was super exceited to meet Sir. Topham Hat and gave him a big hug. Sivai enjoyed it too, it's just his "cheese" face in the picture.

We all had a fun day, even though Lily was a little under the weather. It crowds and heat were torrerable and the lines weren't very long for pictures and activities. I wish the ride was longer, but just for my sake, I think for kids it was just right.

Music Program

A couple of weeks ago we attended Davis Elementary music and art appreciation night. I went thinking it would be like their literacy night; travel from class to class doing different activities. Well I was wrong, it turned out to be their music program for the whole year. I didn't bring a camera or a video camera, and I wish I had. Sivai was really shy at first and I had to really coax him to go and sit with his friends, two little girls from his class that warmly welcomed him with hugs and smiles. Once it started he got really into the music singing at the top of his lungs and doing all the actions. I missed some of it because I was in and out of the hall with Lily. She wanted to be in the front performing too. One of their songs included dancing around the gym in a big circle to the music. It was fun to see him dance and sing with all the other kids. I'm still upset for not bringing my camera though!

This spring has a brought an over abundance of what I call “worms” to our little patch of land. They're little grubby green naked caterpillar looking things. Austin was completely fascinated. At the peak of the season we could collect hundreds of them a day! He stuffed them in his pockets, his shoes, and cups taken from the house. They were everywhere when I did laundry. I don't know why he thought he needed collect them, only to squish them. But he has proved to be a good exterminator. I haven't seen one in days. Oh, and they don't feel good when squished between your' toes first thing in the morning. Also, no pictures.

Sivai will have his first T-ball game this Sat. and we are all excited, I promise to get pictures. We are surprising the kids and taking them to Day out with Thomas (the train) in Heber City tomorrow, and I hope to get pictures as well.

Special Delivery!

Patrick's parents arrived today with a much anticipated delivery of my weaving loom and a piano. They got us the piano to ensure our kids a musical childhood. We are so grateful for their generosity! Our home already feels more homey and well rounded.

I purchased the loom from SUU. They no longer teach the weaving class that I took for 4 semesters. I got a phone call from my old teacher saying they were available to purchase and I jumped at the chance. Now I need to make my brain remember how to use it!

We are also happy to have Patrick's parents visiting us for the weekend. We all have a lot of fun talking and playing together, what a blessing they are in our life.

We visited my family in Kansas over Easter weekend. All of my siblings were home except Renee and Nick, who we missed in our crazy house of fun. We also enjoyed having my grandmother from WA there to visit. The grandkids had a blast at the farm playing with their aunts and uncles and all of the animals. We had a busy weekend with my brother Wyles' b-day on Friday, Sivais' on Saturday, plus my parents Regional church conference on Sat. and Sun., plus Easter on Sunday. I took a bunch of pictures, however it takes so long to upload with my internet so I will be posting them in the days to come.

I passed on Sivai's fall kindergarten photo because he had a cheesy grin. I'm glad this spring one turned out! What a cute kid, and doing great in school. He turns 6 next week and is so excited to "grow up." In his mind it is a huge achievement, and I can't believe we have a 6 year old!

SPRING!

I am so excited for Spring to be here! Austin and I planted our starter seeds for the garden and flower beds a couple of days ago and they are starting to sprout.
Sivai plays outside every day and is already complaining, "It's hot" at 65 degrees.
Lily actually wants to go outside and can get around easily.
We're going to try some of our garden in raised beds, our soil is clay here and doesn't make for the best gardening. We are in a desert after all. There's a lot of work ahead to get our garden going and things cleaned up, but it's a welcome change.
Now, if everyone in the family could not be sick it would really be nice. The past three weeks have been rough, 3 different "sicknesses" traveling slowly but surely from one person to the next. I hope we all have it out of our systems soon...my house is suffering.
I finally got around to deep cleaning the kids' bathroom today and while I was brushing Austins' teeth tonight Sivai came in and said "Oh, looks like we got a new toilet Mom."

Sivai's a funny kid. Over the past few days I've learned about his plans for the future, the long term future. He's convinced that he is going to go to college, here in Vernal, then join the Army. He asked me if there were girls in the Army, I said yes, so he's going to find his "one true love" in the Army and get married and have kids. He has also informed me he will be moving to Grand Junction, CO to live; in a purple house. Sivai is also sure that he will live close to his brother so that they can see each other every day.
I don't remember having everything figured out at this age...but it sure has been interesting try to figure out what's been going on in his head.
